Full-Time and Part-Time Staff Opportunities

The Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department is seeking qualified personnel for full-time and part-time positions as Firefighter/EMTs.  The Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department is an equal opportunity employer. Requirements for Staff Position

1. 18 years old
2. High School Diploma/GED
3. Valid North Carolina Class B/South Carolina Class E within six months of hire.
4. Clear pre-employment background check
5. Clear pre-employment drug screen
6. Clear pre-employment physical agility test
7. Clear pre-employment NFPA 1582 physical
8. Clear pre-employment firefighter and EMS skills evaluation
9. Hold the following qualifications
   1. North Carolina Certified Firefighter/IFSAC or ProBoard Equivalent
   2. NC EMT-Basic
   3. HazMat Operations

The preferred candidate shall possess all three certifications.

Full-Time Compensation & Benefits

• Starting salary entry level certified NC firefighter and NC EMT is $46,130.23 completion of 6-month probation $48,436.74
• Starting salary for an entry-level non-certified employee is $43,933.55
• Overtime paid after 40 hours worked each week
• Health, Dental, & Vision Insurance for employees paid by department
• NFPA 1582 physical is annually paid for by department
• Paid Personal Time Off – Year 1-5 accrual 13.25 shifts per year off
• FMLA
• Accident and Sickness policy
• 401K fire department contribution 7.5% of wages, including overtime
• Forty-Eight (48) hour/Ninety-six (96) hour rotating schedule and shifts run from 0600 – 0600 hours
• $50,000 life insurance policy for each employee, paid by the department
• NCSFA pension payment is paid for by the department
• Paid educational leave hours provided each year for professional development (up to 40 hours per year for approved classes)

Part-Time Compensation

• Starting hourly pay for entry-level certified NC firefighter/EMT is $20.00 per hour. Upon completion of 6-month probation, hourly pay is $21.00.
